How do you choose the right roller for your application in the field of industrial roller manufacturing and assembly?
When selecting or designing an industrial roller system, you need to consider the following requirements: typical speed; temperature; load weight; driven or idler rollers; environment (i.e. humidity and moisture levels); quantity; distance between rollers, and, finally, the materials to be used.
Common materials used for industrial rollers include steel, aluminum, PVC, PE, rubber, polyurethane, or some combination of these. In this guide, however, we will be taking a closer look at steel rollers.
Why choose steel rollers?
Steel rollers are usually chosen because of their durability, plain and simple. In an industrial environment, rollers are subject to a lot of wear and tear. On the Rockwell B scale (used here for comparison with aluminum), steel ranges from 65 to 100, while aluminum measures 60. the higher the number on the Rockwell scale, the harder the material. This means that steel will last longer than aluminum, thus reducing replacement and maintenance costs. Not to mention keeping work on schedule rather than wasting time when the conveyor system is shut down.
Steel is also superior to aluminum in environments where rollers need to withstand higher temperatures (up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit).
Steel versus plastic conveyor rollers
Plastic conveyor rollers are often advocated in the food industry or in processing plants where the requirements of FDA and/or FSMA regulations require frequent cleaning and harsh chemical treatment. In these cases, the untreated steel may corrode and need to be replaced.
However, it is important to note that in this particular application, stainless steel conveyor rollers are a common alternative to plastic rollers. Stainless steel is easy to clean and corrosion-resistant, making it a popular choice for environments with stringent hygiene conditions.
Overall, therefore, steel conveyor rollers perform significantly better than plastic rollers in heavy industrial applications due to their durability.
Who uses steel rollers?
Steel gravity rollers from China manufacturers are most commonly used in conveyor systems and are widely used in industries such as airports, electronics and appliances, automotive, furniture, paper, food, warehousing, and logistics conveying. Conveyor rollers and systems are also essential.
Steel roller components
Steel rollers and their components are manufactured around a wide range of specifications.
Materials: plain steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel, and even steel-aluminum alloy
Surface coating: coated steel for extended corrosion resistance
Types: straight, fluted, flanged, or tapered
Roller diameters: common sizes of conveyors range from 3/4" to 3.5"
Load rating: what is the maximum capacity the roller needs to carry?
Wall and thickness of the tube
Do steel rollers meet your needs?
The manufacturing process around industrial rollers is constantly changing. Depending on the necessary prerequisites for conveying, we use steel gravity rollers in combination with other materials. The steel rollers are lined with PVC, PU, etc. And we use processes such as cylindrical roll forming and inertial friction welding. We will produce gravity rolls to the maximum extent possible for you that best meet the needs of the market.
